After the death of the Dajjal, the world will experience a period of peace under the rule of Jesus, son of Mary. But this golden age will be interrupted by the most terrifying cataclysm since the Great Flood. God will reveal to Jesus: "I have brought forth some of My servants whom no one can fight. Take My worshippers to Mount Sinai for safety." So Jesus will withdraw with the believers to the Mount of Sinai (At-Tur). And then the wall of Dhul-Qarnayn — the great barrier of iron and brass — will crumble to dust. For millennia, according to the Quran, a wild and savage people known as Gog and Magog (Yajuj wa Majuj) have been trapped behind this wall. Every day they dig at it, trying to escape. Every night, the wall is restored by divine power. One day — at the appointed time — they will say: "Tomorrow we will finish." But they will wake to find the wall not restored but leveled. And they will pour forth across the earth in numbers beyond counting. The first wave of them will pass by the Sea of Galilee (Lake Tiberias) and drink it dry. When the last of them passes, he will say: "There was once water here." They will devastate the earth, killing and consuming everything in their path. No army will be able to stop them. The believers, safe on Mount Sinai with Jesus, will be terrified. Jesus will pray for their destruction. God will send a plague — a worm that infests the necks of Gog and Magog, and they will die all at once. Then God will send birds to carry away their bodies, and rain to wash the earth clean. The world will be purified. And the believers will descend from the mountain.
Summary: Gog and Magog are a wild, destructive people trapped behind a great wall built by Dhul-Qarnayn. Their release at the end of time is a major sign in Islamic eschatology. Jesus will be warned by God and will retreat with the believers to Mount Sinai. The wall will crumble. Gog and Magog will pour forth, devastating the earth and drinking the Sea of Galilee dry. Jesus will pray for their destruction. God will send a worm that kills them instantly. Birds will carry their bodies away. A cleansing rain will purify the earth.
🏔️ The Retreat to Mount Sinai
Jesus will be informed by divine revelation: "I have released Gog and Magog, and they are pouring down from every height." He will gather the believers — who will be few in number — and withdraw to the Mount of Sinai. The mountain will be a fortress of faith in a world consumed by destruction. The believers will have only their faith and their patience as Gog and Magog sweep across the earth.
The Lake of Tiberias — Drank Dry
"The first of them will pass by the Lake of Tiberias and drink from it. When the last of them passes, he will look at the empty lake bed and say: 'There was once water here.' Gog and Magog are not an army. They are a flood — an innumerable tide of humanity that consumes everything in its path."
💀 The Divine Destruction
When Jesus sees the devastation wrought by Gog and Magog, he will pray to God. A plague will be sent — "a worm in their necks" (naghaf fi a'naqihim) — and the entire horde will perish instantly. Their bodies will cover the earth. The stench will be unbearable. Then God will send birds — "like the necks of Bactrian camels" — to carry away the corpses. A great rain will fall, washing the earth clean. Jesus and the believers will descend from the mountain to find a world purified, the memory of Gog and Magog already fading.
