📦 The Lost Ark of the Covenant

History's Greatest Missing Treasure - 2,610 Years of Mystery

The Ark of the Covenant is the most sacred object in Jewish history. A wooden chest covered in gold (1.31 × 0.78 × 0.78 meters). Built by Moses at Sinai on God's command (3,300 years ago). It contains the tablets of the Ten Commandments (written by God for Moses). The Ark was considered the throne of God on Earth (according to belief). The Israelites carried it before them in battle (it parted the Jordan River, brought down the walls of Jericho). It was placed in the Holy of Holies in Solomon's Temple (only the High Priest could enter, once a year). In 586 BC, Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon destroyed Jerusalem and Solomon's Temple. The Ark... vanished. It was not listed among the spoils. Since that day — 2,610 years — no one has seen it. Where did it go? Theories: hidden by priests beneath the Temple (secret tunnels). Taken by the prophet Jeremiah to Mount Nebo (Jordan). Carried by Menelik (son of the Queen of Sheba and Solomon) to Ethiopia. Taken by the Knights Templar to France. Still buried in a vault beneath the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Or... lifted to heaven by God (as some believe). The Ark of the Covenant is the greatest lost treasure in human history.

Summary: The Ark of the Covenant: a chest of acacia wood covered in gold. Length: 2.5 cubits (1.31 m), width and height: 1.5 cubits (0.78 m). Contains: the two tablets of the Ten Commandments, Aaron's rod, a jar of manna. Cover: the "Mercy Seat" (two golden cherubim facing each other). Built around 1446 BC (approximately). Last confirmed appearance: 586 BC (destruction of the Temple). Theories about its location: Ethiopia (Axum — Church of Mary of Zion), beneath the Temple Mount (tunnels), Jordan (Mount Nebo), France (Rennes-le-Château), Zimbabwe (lost Jewish colony), Rome (beneath the Vatican).

🇪🇹 The Ethiopian Theory: The Ark in Axum

In the city of Axum (northern Ethiopia), in the Church of "Mary of Zion," there is a single monk. He is the only one allowed to enter the sacred chamber. He never leaves it (stays there until death, then replaced by another monk). Ethiopians (the Ethiopian Orthodox Church) believe that the Ark of the Covenant has been in this church for 3,000 years. The story: the Queen of Sheba (Ethiopian) visited Solomon. She bore him a son: Menelik I. When Menelik grew up, he visited his father in Jerusalem. On his return... he took the Ark with him (or Solomon secretly gave it to him). Since then, the Ark has been in Ethiopia. Every Ethiopian church has a replica (tabot). But the original... is in Axum. Is this true? Historians are skeptical. But Ethiopians believe.

"No one will find the Ark until God permits it. It is hidden from human eyes."

What Does the Quran Say?

"In the Quran (Surah Al-Baqarah: 248): 'And their prophet said to them: Indeed, a sign of his kingship is that the chest (Tabut) will come to you, in it is tranquility from your Lord and a remnant of what the family of Moses and the family of Aaron left behind, carried by the angels. Indeed, in that is a sign for you, if you are believers.' The Quran mentions the Ark (Tabut al-Sakinah) as a sign of the kingship of Talut (Saul). It contains 'a remnant of what the family of Moses and Aaron left behind.' The angels carry it. After this verse, the Quran says nothing about the fate of the Ark. It vanished from history."
